Pendleton's Brooks Wood wins State Championship!
The 38th South Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association State Championships were held Jan 21st. The tournament is the oldest running tournament in the state of South Carolina. Since its existence for 38 years this was the first year that a females division took place. Girls from all over the state competed in nine different weight divisions for a chance to be crowned state champion. Pendleton's Brooks Wood competed and won her division. Brooks took home the first females division state championship in her weight class.
Way to go Brooks!!

Finding Money for College 2012
Finding Money for College 2012 will air on Jan. 29th, 5-7 p.m. on ETV. The information presented is very timely and especially needed for seniors and their parents. Tune in Sunday night or click on the link for other ways to access this important information.
Registration for the 2012-2013 school year is here!
PHS will be hosting grade level parent nights this year. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to get an overview of the registration process, curriculum guide, programs and transitions to post-secondary opportunities. Parents will receive their student's course curriculum guide at these meetings. If you have any questions regarding parent nights, please contact your student's guidance counselor.

PHS Robotics Team E.M.P. competes in VEX Robotics Competitions
The Pendleton High School Robotics Team E.M.P. competed in their first VEX Robotics Competition at Evans High School in Georgia on Sat. Jan. 14th. They were among 28 teams from GA including Tournament Champions, North Forsyth High School. The Robotics Team is an extension of the Project Lead the Way classes at Pendleton High School and earns an activities ribbon for the ROTC classes. The team will be traveling to the Gwinnett School of Math, Science & Technology VEX Robotics Competition this Sat. to compete against 38 teams from GA.

(Ret) Dave Rearick, Dreson Swilling, Zach Hunteman, Ty Norris, TJ Jones, Coach LaMarr Brooks. Carson Young has been named the Carolinas Junior Golf Player of the Year and All-Carolinas for 2011!
Young, a 17-year-old high school junior at Pendleton High School, earned the 2011 Boys’ Player of the Year honor by winning the CGA SC Junior Match Play Championship and the CPGA Junior Championship. Young also finished third in the SCJGA Players Championship, fifth in the SCJGA Fall Championship, tied for fifth in the CGA Carolinas Junior Championship and sixth in the SC Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic. Young helped the Carolinas defeat the Virginias in the Virginias-Carolinas Junior Team matches. Young has committed to play college golf at Clemson University. Along with Young on the All-Carolinas Boys’ Team are Will Starke of Chapin, SC and Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill, NC. Congratulations, Carson!

PHS Art Students Win Prestigious Scholastic Art Awards!
The Scholastic Art Awards have an impressive legacy dating back to 1923 and a noteworthy roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates. The Scholastic Art Awards is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. Seven artworks were selected from Pendleton High School out of thousands of submissions across the state. This is a juried art exhibit, so even being selected is a huge accomplishment. Please congratulate the following students when you see them:

Michelle Gilmer Named National ABCTE Teacher of the Year!
Michelle Gilmer has been selected as the National ABCTE Teacher of the Year. The organization recognizes exemplary teachers who enter the field and certification through non-traditional avenues. Michelle will go to Washington, DC in early March to accept the award. Congratulations, Mrs. Gilmer!

State Championship FFA Soil Judging and Land Evaluation
The PHS FFA Soil Judging and Land Evaluation Team was recognized by the ASD4 Board of Trustees on Monday, January 9, for their recent state championship. Team members in the photo are Adam Willey, Weston Link, and Josh Yeargin. Not in the photo is Angel Woody.
Discover Manufacturing Design Challenge
The 11th Annual Discover Manufacturing Design Challenge is underway. This competition is designed to engage students to learn about the benefits of manufacturing in their community/region and the state. Scholarships will be awarded for the top essay and advertising design in three categories: Elementary (design only), Middle School, and High School. Click on the Flyer and the Rubric that will be used for judging.
Entries are due by February 13 so that the local application winners can be sent to Silver Crescent Foundation by February 29. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Horton in Guidance.
